For business owners and managers, finding a way to reduce health insurance claims, sick time, and time taken for doctor visits seems like a pipe dream. But a progressive local company is addressing these issues and establishing themselves as a leader in on-site health care for businesses in Michiana.

On-Site Health Solutions provides a variety of different wellness programs to area businesses, from blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings to smoking cessation, flu shots, and CPR training. The company is owned and operated by Connie Bryan. "We usually start with an initial screening: blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and a health risk assessment," says Connie. "We gather information about the person's health history and family risk factors. We really get a plethora of information immediately because we run the tests right then and there, instead of sending them to a lab. We share the results with the individual, one-on-one, and if necessary, make recommendations to see their regular physician. We then put together a statistical report for the company, and from there we can develop a wellness program tailored to their needs. We can do things like nutrition clinics, smoking cessation classes, and on-site health fairs.

The benefit to employers is plentiful. Unhealthy employees cost companies money in medical claims and lost productivity. Health care costs are often the second-highest business expense behind payroll, therefore, companies are always looking for ways to lower health-related costs. "This is a great program for employers," Connie explained. "All of the screenings are done at their location, and the employees can their results back immediately. When we contracted with the City of South Bend, the Mayor was the first person in line for the screening." "

The benefit to the employee is obvious, especially when you consider that, for many people, it may be the only time they receive this kind of medical information. Connie can recall several instances where employees were sent immediately to the hospital after having their blood pressure taken. "It most definitely saved their lives," she said.
